Interests
Dr. Baserga's research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of fetal origins of adult disease. More specifically, her interest has been to determine how intrauterine growth restriction leads to adult onset of disease, in particular hypertension. Using an animal model of uteroplacental insufficiency in rats that has been shown to affect nephron number, she is investigating the apoptotic and glucocorticoid signaling pathways. Currently Dr. Baserga is working to test the hypothesizes that intrauterine growth restriction alters renal determinants of cell prolferation and death by interfering with signaling of p53,11 beta-Hydroxysteroid type 2, the glucocorticoid receptor and COX-2.
