Welcome to Pediatric
Pharmacology....
The Pediatric Pharmacology
Program at the University of Utah is devoted to the research
of children's medicine. Established in 1999, this
program is lead by Dr. Robert Ward, one of the country's
foremost neonatologists and former chair
of the Committee on Drugs at the American Academy of
Pediatrics.
Today, only 25% of drugs used
to treat children have actually been studied in children.
The Pediatric Pharmacology Program at the University of Utah
is working to eliminate this deficiency in accordance with FDA
regulations, and in response to the stimulus from the
Best
Pharmaceuticals for Children's Act and the Pediatric
Research Equity Act
which requires drug studies for children during the drug
development and approval process.
The Pediatric Pharmacology
Program has studied over six hundred children since its creation. The
program is located in the University of Utah's Research Park. We work in conjunction with
the University Hospital, Primary Children's
Medical Center, and the faculty of the University of Utah
Department of Pediatrics.
Primary Children's
Medical Center is the
pediatric referral center for the entire Intermountain West, prepared
to care for children and adolescents with complex illnesses
and injuries. In 2003 Primary Children's Medical Center
was named among the top 10 children's hospitals in the
United States by Child Magazine.
