Endocrinology/Diabetes Fellowship
The University of Utah Pediatric Endocrinology fellowship training program is designed to provide clinical training in pediatric endocrinology, including diabetes, in preparation for a career in academic medicine. The University of Utah and the Department of Pediatrics afford the trainee a rich environment of clinical and research experience including a department sponsored program offering formal training in biostatistics, scientific lecturing, research ethics, grant writing and manuscript preparation.
The diabetes program at Primary Children’s is over 20 years old, and approximately 200 newly diagnosed children with type 1 diabetes enter the program annually. The practice follows 1200-1500 children and teens with diabetes. The outpatient practice is evenly divided between diabetes and endocrinologic disorders with approximately 6500 outpatient visits per year. Patients with all variety of pediatric endocrinology disorders are followed throughout childhood and teenage years.
The faculty provides expertise in all areas of pediatric endocrinology and diabetes including the genetics of type 1 diabetes (David Donaldson, MD), pubertal development (Carol M Foster, MD), neuroendocrinology (Marie Simard, MD), and bone metabolism (Mary Murray, MD).
