Fellowships
Neonatology Fellowship
The University of Utah Neonatal - Perinatal Fellowship Program provides the experience and training needed to prepare bright, highly motivated pediatricians for successful academic careers. To achieve this goal, the major focus of the program is research experience. Each fellow will interact closely with a carefully selected senior investigator who provides direct supervision of the fellow's research experience to assure that he or she acquires the knowledge and skills needed to answer substantial questions in a critical manner. To supplement this individual experience, each fellow also participates in a basic science interest series as well as the core curriculum designed to provide important background material in critical reading, scientific writing, scientific lecturing, biostatistics, and research ethics. Graduate courses in cellular and molecular biology are also available.
Each fellow will also be provided a comprehensive experience in the care of sick infants. The University of Utah faculty and Primary Children's Medical Center serve as the major tertiary care resource for approximately 10% of the geographic area of the United States, thereby offering broad and diverse patient care experiences. Thus, the training program provides the clinical experience and research background essential for a successful academic career. The ultimate success of the postdoctoral program will be reflected by the successful transition of trainees into independent careers as physician scientists. Applicants are evaluated on the basis of their past record, recommendations from former mentors, and, most importantly, their commitment to achieve excellence in research training directed toward a career in academic medicine.
The University of Utah, Division of Neonatology is now participating in the National Resident Matching Program, Specialties Matching Service. Applications are only accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Initial contact from potential applicants is made through ERAS, initial letters of inquiry or from internet sources. The Neonatal/Perinatal Medicine Training Program at the University of Utah is advertised on the University of Utah Pediatrics Department website.
