Global Health Websites
The Global Health Council is a U.S.-based non-profit organization whose mission is to ‘work to ensure that all who strive for improvement and equity in global health have the information and resources they need to succeed.’ The Council is considered an authoritative source for global health information and is instrumental in informing both public and governmental policymakers. The Council offers a free weekly global health e-newsletter which covers a great variety of timely global health news.
The Global Health Education Consortium is a 'consortium of faculty and health care educators dedicated to global health education in North American health professions schools and residency programs. The website contains many useful resources for those teach, work and study global health. Particularly useful are resources for students and residents engaging in international electives, an extensive global health bibliography of sentinel publications regarding a large variety of global health topics, and information about preparing for a conference, poster or presentation.
The Center for Health Communications at the Harvard School of Public Health publishes a free weekly e-newsletter covering recent global and national public health news with occasional original articles.
The World Health Organization offers myriad global health resources via their website including: country-specific health-related information, global data and statistics and WHO publications, including Bulletin of the World Health Organization.
The Lancet publishes a variety of research articles with a global health focus and offers many free of charge. Sign up for free weekly e-mail updates of Lancet publications.
The International Child Health Review Collaboration is a joint effort between 8 international academic centers that focus on child health. This multi-center collaboration endeavors to “deliver the evidence basis behind World Health Organization guidelines for use by doctors, nurses and other child health workers in developing countries.” Currently, 55 reviews have been completed and are accessible to the public free of charge.
E-Learning Resources
The Global Health eLearning Center was developed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and provides internet-based educational courses for professionals and field staff who work in global health. Currently, 24 courses are available after free registration.
The Baylor International Pediatric AIDS Initiative publishes an on-line course titled “HIV Curriculum for the Health Professional” that is available free of charge.
Medical Spanish e-Resources offers links to a variety of Spanish learning resources.
