River Trip

First Year Resident Raft Trip

An exciting welcome to the pediatric residency of the University of Utah is the annual raft trip on the Colorado River, near Moab, Utah. Current residents, the program directors and coordinators, the department chair, and select faculty greet incoming residents on a two-day adventure. A welcome dinner hosted by the Program Director is another social event during the orientation week for new residents.

Resident Retreats

PL-1 Retreat
In the fall of the PL-1 year, all PL-1's attend a retreat at Deer Valley/Park City, Utah. Here residents learn about communication, professionalism, conflict resolution, teaching and giving feedback. Spouses, children and significant others are invited to attend. Ample free time is provided for residents and their families to take advantage of Utah's spectacular activities, including: hiking, mountain biking, sightseeing and exploring the environment.

Rising PL-2 & PL-3 Workshops
In the spring of each year, the PL-1's and PL-2's meet for a day of camaraderie and education in preparation for their supervisory years.

PL-3 Workshop

Each fall, the PL-3's meet to hear presentations and discussions regarding job and fellowship applications, contracts, risk management and personal finance.
